Second BE-LIGHT School and First Hands-on Training for Recruited Researchers in Gdańsk: An Enriching Training Experience Ahead!
The second BE-LIGHT School and the first Hands-on Training are just a few months away!
These events will take place in Gdańsk, Poland, from the 15th to the 23rd of May.
The hosting institution will be the Gdańsk University of Technology (PG), with the collaboration of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (Poland).

The Hands-on Training will provide recruited researchers with a solid foundation in Deep Learning, covering:
- Mathematical fundamentals and practical implementation
- Preventing overfitting, training tracking, and hyperparameter tuning
- Denoising and super-resolution techniques
- Introduction to MLOps with GitLab
- Introduction to Transformers and Vision Transformers
- Explainable AI (XAI)
The BE-LIGHT School will feature intermediate-level lectures led by Principal Investigators (PIs) from various institutions, covering four key topics:
- Super-resolution microscopy (UGOE, FSJD)
- Optogenetics and physiology (MPI, SU)
- Photonics for disease diagnosis and treatment (NCU, UPC, UZH)
- Vision models and neural computation (UPC, SU, PG)
Additionally, fellows will take part in outreach activities at the PitchFest during the Baltic Science Festival, presenting their research to a broader audience.
Participants will also have the opportunity to join four sessions to develop transversal skills, focusing on:
- Structuring a logical and coherent scientific argument
- Presenting data and results with clear visual illustrations
- Publishing data and software in scientific journals
- Best laboratory practices and effective communication skills
Prof. Dr. Jacek Ruminski, organizer of the 2nd School, is a highly regarded expert in Deep Learning, an outstanding communicator, and an experienced teacher. He will lead the sessions in the Hands-on Training as well as the Presentation and Communication Skills lecture.
